![]() ![]() The worst thing about our industry is how we continually throw away great ideas and whilst it's easier now than ever there were a lot of workflows that have been lost which actually were really good. Or how about action match on isc/gvg controllers? No we have to mark in and out points and back calculate like medieval peasants. Reel tag on an ampex ace let you cut back to a source and automatically put it back in sync with the last time you used that source, it was great when cutting multicam shows. Seems that could be done in a quicktime header but no can't make things so easy. Heck the videomedia z6000 saved the edl as audio on the front of the master tape - wherever the show went so did the edl. Why can't I do that in 2019 on an avid or flame? Yet even with 24k of ram we had the option to load the cmx program to a higher memory address after a crash and so be able to access the unsaved edl from live ram. When is the first successful feature film going to be cut on an iPad, with all the media on a cloud site ? And of course, we saw this during the transition to AVID (REAL editors were CMX editors).Īnd we are at the tail end of this even today (REAL editors are AVID editors). When I started to get some "respect" in this business in NY City, all the REAL editors were FILM editors, and they thought that all this video stuff (linear video) was a bunch of crap. And here we are today in 2019, and we still have the same crappy TV shows and commercials. Even ISC (GVG) super edit ran on 64K of RAM (impossible - how can that be !). Then your computer would boot up, and you would start to edit. You grabbed this pile of paper, loaded it into a DEC paper tape reader (a bunch of paper with little holes in it) and fed it into the reader. That's when men were men ! No SSD's, no hard drives, no floppy disks. Looking for something more local? Here are some localized subreddits: To chat with specialists in recording sound on set, check out Want to learn more?
